Get to Know Bravo Below Deck Med's Captain Sandy

On the popular Bravo reality series Below Deck Med Captain Sandy leads the crew aboard a luxury yacht as they navigate working together and create five-star guest experiences. Guests at the upcoming Atlanta Home Show will get a chance to meet Captain Sandy, get behind-the-scenes tea, learn about her tried-and-true leadership advice and hear her own cautionary tale with a homebuilder.

She appears at the Cobb Galleria on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21, but before she docks in Atlanta, we wanted to know what’s on her home improvement preference sheet:

What home gadget or tool should every homeowner own?

I think the one we use the most is a screwdriver, but a leveler and hammer are indispensable too. Is a blender considered a gadget? If so, a blender for my wife’s shakes.

What is your favorite place you’ve ever traveled?

I’ve been to some amazing places, but my favorite is South of France.

What’s your favorite TV series? 

Below Deck!  We love Succession, too we’re binging it right now. Over the holidays, a bunch of people sent me a video clip of the actress from Succession Sarah Snook talking about how much she loved watching Below Deck. That was so fun and surreal.

What’s your favorite paint color?

I like bright and splashy colors. When we lived in Denver I painted one wall of the garage this great red, and I hung my motorcycle helmets on it. (Sandy rides a Ducati). For our new house we picked this whitewashed grey and I love it.

In your opinion what’s the most underrated tool in your toolbox?

A drill. It’s so versatile.

Best home purchase for under $100?

Oooh, something to make it cozy. Like a great soft blanket or really nice sheets…invest in good bedding.

What celebrity would you want to welcome aboard a boat? Oh wow – well I’m going to say George Clooney, he was interviewed recently and talked about how was watching Below Deck. The Housewives of Beverly Hills. Or Amy Shumer, she has actually a fish named after me! Queen Latifah would be awesome too.

What do you enjoy about being at a home show?

I love just learning about what is new, walking around and seeing everything. Speaking at a home show it’s all about the people I get to meet. I’m so excited to be traveling to the shows this year and getting to meet and interact with the people who come see me.
